Sarah Sleeps Around: Serafina Beach Hotel
I don't need to tell you that San Juan, Puerto Rico has faced its share of challenges post-Maria. But I DO need to tell you that when I saw the city for myself last week, I witnessed encouraging signs of the capital's continued recovery.
Shops in Old San Juan (including newcomer Coconut People) are open; piña coladas (the island's national drink) are still being poured; the fort at El Morro stands as proudly as ever (see it from the sea with on a harbor cruise with East Island Excursions); and the mofongo (shout out to classic OSJ restaurant Rest. El Jibarito!) is still being served with smiles as warm as the weather.
But perhaps the most significant sign of the island's bounce-back is the opening of Serafina Beach Hotel, the first new resort to open in the city since last year's storms.
I hope you'll take five minutes to watch this video of my stay. But even more than that, I hope you'll consider visiting Puerto Rico soon. The city is open for business and Sanjuaneros are ready to welcome you. I GUARANTEE that that you'll eat well, shop like a boss and party hard. And when the time comes to go home, you'll leave a tiny piece of your heart behind.
And remember, the best way to help the Caribbean is to visit the Caribbean. Puerto Rico se levanta!
