Behind the Lens: Grand Bahama

Sometimes there are interesting stories behind the iPhone photos I take on my trips. In this new series, I'm sharing a few of them.

May 2012: It’s not every day that you get to pilot a ferry across the Atlantic. But the captain of the Bahamas Express Pinar Del Rio fast ferry was kind enough to let me “drive” (or at least pretend to) as we sailed from Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades to Freeport, Grand Bahama. The 2.5-hour catamaran crossing allows just enough time to enjoy a snack, shop the duty-free counter or watch a movie. And then, before you know it, you’ve dropped anchor at Freeport, where white-sand beaches, warm turquoise waters, and myriad conch-eating opportunities await.
