Grand Cayman’s Coolest Cocktail
On the northern tip of Grand Cayman, the Wreck Bar at Rum Point is the mecca for thirsty cruise-ship day-trippers (and on Sundays, a local boating crowd) in search of surf, sand and slurps.
It’s also the home of the Mudslide, the signature libation that many claim was invented right here back in the 1970s.
The Wreck Bar serves up as many as 400 of the creamy vodka-based concoctions a day. And while other watering holes on the island may serve versions blasphemously blended with ice cream (the horror!), this is the only place where you can sip the unadulterated, nothing-but-liquor original.
Want to get muddy at home? The recipe couldn’t be simpler:
- Blend equal parts vodka (The Wreck Bar recommends Absolut), Kahula and Bailey’s Irish Cream with crushed ice.
- Pour into a tumbler, and top with a cherry and dash of cinnamon
- For an extra kick, drizzle half an ounce of Kahlua into the straw
